ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A new study says a giant hot rock blob under New Hampshire helps hold up the Appalachian Mountains despite millions of years of erosion—officials believe it formed about 180 million years ago when the continent split from Africa. Researchers add the blob, called the Northern Appalachian Anomaly, is moving slowly and will reach New York in about 10 to 15 million years—raising questions about its long-term impact on the range.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Between 1969 and 1971, the Nashua Police Department launched New Hampshire's only municipal training program for new officers — a 160-hour course of classroom lessons and street work — and started the Junior Police League along with a drug abuse program.
