COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local nonprofits call for volunteers to support veterans, food banks and shelters, as well as animal rescue efforts across the area. Residents can select a cause (such as helping at food banks or animal rescue) to lend a hand to neighbors in need.  Granite Post
  • The New Hampshire Coalition to End Homelessness released a report showing an 8% drop in the homeless population from 2023 to 2024 — outdoor counts in late January nearly quadrupled since 2019, and the report recommends more support for exiting homelessness, better data, and improved affordable housing.  WMUR
  • Donations poured in for the Spirit of Giving Toy Drive at WMUR studios until 8:00 p.m. yesterday; families, local companies, and volunteers (from Londonderry High School) helped support the annual Toys for Tots event.  WMUR
  • New Hampshire State Police troopers delivered dozens of toy donations on Friday during the Spirit of Giving Toy Drive. The drive — featuring collection spots and weekend events — supports volunteer students from Londonderry High school as they count and sort the toys for the warehouse.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Hampshire’s Executive Council approved a contract on Wednesday to extend the "Get the Lead Out of Drinking Water" program, making $337553 available through Sept. 2026 to help child care centers replace faucets, pipes, and install filters if tests show high lead levels.  New Hampshire Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • Starting Jan. 1, NH Medicaid will stop covering GLP-1 drugs such as Wegovy and Zepbound for weight loss; Gov. Ayotte said the change will redirect funds to patients with pre-existing conditions while health advocates warn it may increase long-term costs.  New Hampshire Bulletin
  • State safety officials reminded residents to clear snow off vehicles and check that carbon monoxide and fire detectors work properly this winter at a safety conference in Concord on Friday (a precaution following last winter's incidents) to reduce hazards on roads and at home.  WMUR

  • Tiny homes are being considered as an affordable housing solution in Nashua as local developers and officials review plans to revive this American tradition (a cost-effective living option).  New Hampshire Union Leader

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Southern New Hampshire University men’s soccer team will host Gannon University in the NCAA tournament today at 3 p.m. at the Mark A. Ouellette Stadium in Hooksett after defeating University of Charleston (the No. 1 ranked team in Division II).  WMUR
  • Franklin Pierce University’s women’s hockey team won a shootout victory over rival Saint Anselm 4 to 3 on Dec. 4 in Manchester. Carly Murray scored early, Brooklynn Schneiderhan reached her 100th goal, and Abigail Brose netted the winner as the Ravens extended their streak to seven games.  WMUR
