EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new tax and spending package called the Big Beautiful Bill will limit federal student loans by setting caps at $20,000 per year and $100,000 in total for most graduate programs while allowing higher limits for professional degrees and capping PLUS loans for parents at $20,000 per year and $65,000 per child, with the changes taking effect in July. The Department of Education said the reforms aim to lower program costs — though the New Hampshire Nurses Association warned the limits could make nursing education less affordable.  WMUR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Last week, five New England states including New Hampshire launched a $450M plan to boost heat pump use by offering incentives, training, and easier purchase steps to reduce reliance on oil and gas heating. The program aims to install 580,000 heat pumps and cut emissions by 2.5 million metric tons, with first products available in February 2026 — funding details to be finalized by the end of the year.  New Hampshire Bulletin
