COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in New Hampshire with family in Jamaica are waiting for updates after Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage on the island—many homes lost roofs and neighborhoods were left in debris. Jamaican national Suan Lewis-Briscoe, whose three children are safe despite severe home damage, and others working at a local resort said support efforts are ongoing.  WMUR
  • Vouchers for Veterans will return to New Hampshire winter farmers markets next month—providing voucher benefits to support veterans through April.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • Today, Nashua and nearby communities host a packed Halloween weekend with events such as Teen Thursdays at Manchester City Library from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and a candidate forum at Nashua Public Library at 6:30 p.m.—later events include art tours, themed parties and a winter clothing drive to support residents in need.  Nashua Ink Link

  • Google and The Walt Disney Company are negotiating a renewal for YouTubeTV that will keep WMUR on air — if no deal is reached by 11:59 p.m. Eastern today, WMUR's signal may be removed. Neither WMUR nor Hearst is involved in the discussions — the talks are solely between the two companies.  WMUR
  • Unitil Corp. will host its 5th Annual Veterans Day Career Fair on Nov. 6—aiming to give veterans clear insights into a range of job opportunities from employers.  New Hampshire Union Leader

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Merrimack High School’s robotics team Chop Shop 166 competed at RiverRage on October 25 and went undefeated in their qualification matches before captaining an alliance that won the event; they also donated 285 items to a local food pantry. The team will compete at Alton Bay on November 1 and 2+ their victory boosts plans for upcoming challenges.  Nashua Ink Link

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologist Kevin Skarupa said dry, cool conditions with highs in the low 50s will give way to steady rain tonight and early Friday morning — southern areas are expected to see clear skies for trick-or-treating as gusty winds develop later.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city lost Alderwoman Gloria Timmons Wednesday morning after a long career in education, military, and state work—she served on the Board of Education and as a state employee. Mayor Jim Donchess said her passing leaves a deep void as she had planned not to run for re-election and her term was set to end in December.  Nashua Ink Link
  • State officials have approved a plan to fund up to 20 mobile food pantries twice a week & reallocate $2 million from the Medicaid Enhancement Tax to help SNAP recipients if federal benefits pause. The contract runs until Dec. 5 with an option to extend as needed if the shutdown continues.  New Hampshire Bulletin
  • State officials lifted the statewide ban on open fires and smoking near woodlands after recent rains lowered fire risks—residents can now use wooded areas without the earlier restrictions.  New Hampshire Union Leader

  • Mascenic beat Hopkinton 3-2 in double overtime and Saint Thomas won 2-1 against Berlin to advance to the Division III field hockey championship—they will meet for the title at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Bedford High School.  WMUR
