COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Nashua hosted the first 'Main Street Monster Mash and Howl-o-Ween' on October 25th—hundreds of families joined trick-or-treating as over 500 kids collected candy from more than 30 businesses, and a puppy parade featuring 40 dogs and a scarecrow contest drew strong local support.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Yankee Lanes in Manchester raised $39,652 for the High Hopes Foundation of New Hampshire during its annual weekend event that supports sick and chronically ill children. The check was given to families at Fotia Greek Taverna (held Sunday) to help cover gaps in traditional health insurance.  WMUR
  • Molly is a 1½-year-old pit bull-terrier mix who weighs about 50 pounds and needs a forever home with a large fenced yard where she can run, play fetch, and work on her agility and reactivity training. She must be the only pet in the home and her adoption fee is fully sponsored (contact Jezzie's Place Rescue for a home visit).  WMUR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sean O'Brien from UNH Cooperative Extension explained how to plant bulbs now so that local gardens will see flowers sprouting early next spring (a guide to brightening yards).  WMUR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Steve Ahnen, President of the NH Hospital Association, said rural hospitals will lose $753 million in Medicaid by 2034—forcing cuts in services like OBGYN and primary care. He added that New Hampshire will apply for federal funds from a $50 billion rural health transformation program that may help ease these cuts.  WMUR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bishop Guertin freshman Zoe Coler finished 5th in the Division I girls cross country race at Derryfield Park in a time of 20:07.67 and helped the Cardinals finish fourth with 152 points. The team will advance to the Meet of Champions at Alvirne High—Nashua North junior Rosalie Neveau, who placed 10th, also advances.  Nashua Ink Link
