  • On Oct. 17, the Nashua NAACP held its Freedom Fund Dinner at Nashua Country Club to inspire action and unity, as leaders called for fighting inequality and holding officials accountable. Co-chairs Melanie Levesque and Michael J. Atkins, along with youth speaker Jordin Lopez, stressed urgent measures for change—emphasizing stronger voting rights and education funding.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Nashua residents gathered on Library Hill on October 18 for the nationwide No Kings protest—organizers will hold a virtual call on October 21 at 8 p.m. to discuss next steps.  Nashua Ink Link

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lauren and Joseph Getts of DOGHOP discussed in an interview with Fred Kocher how their Manchester business transports dogs and cats door-to-door across the U.S. and Canada—using ground and air options, a pricing model of about $2 per mile, a discount for veterans, and donating 1% of profits to local nonprofits. They started DOGHOP after working in logistics during the pandemic and built the service with help from the local small business development center.  WMUR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Drivers in New Hampshire are finding gas prices have dropped below $3 per gallon, with regular unleaded now around $2.95—a 12-cent drop from last month—while Mike Skelton of the Business and Industry Association said the lower cost may show that consumers feel less sure about the economy.  WMUR

  • The Belanger family in Nashua—whose three generations have supported local education for over 50 years—was honored by the Nashua Education Foundation for their service to community academics.
