- ➤ Consumer Reports showed that Kroger — a major grocery chain — collects detailed shopper information and sells it to third parties for targeted ads. The investigation also found that many shopper profiles are inaccurate and noted that New Hampshire law allows consumers to access and correct their data. WMUR
- ➤ Brandon Saldoni of Bentley’s Famous BBQ, which started in 2011, represented New Hampshire at a major competition in Tennessee on Oct 16. His team, House of Que, finished toward the middle among top competitors and he plans to launch a new line of sauces and rubs soon — a move that highlights his distinctive New England flair in barbecue. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ New Hampshire has seen a drastic drop in rainfall this year as only 10.61 inches have fallen since June after more than 18 inches came in February through May. Concord recorded a deficit of 6.3 inches from the average and central and northern communities saw even larger shortfalls, worsening drought conditions into fall. WMUR

- ➤ At Thursday’s Housing and the Economy Conference, panelists said New Hampshire made some progress on the housing crisis but warned that budget cuts are hurting efforts to boost housing inventory—Somersworth Mayor Matt Gerding expressed disappointment over the loss of key program funding. - ➤ A Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine study shows kidney cancer rates in Merrimack are 38% higher than expected and notes an 18% rise in Manchester, according to Associate Professor Megan Romano who reported the findings to a state commission on Oct 10. Researchers used state cancer data from 1995 to 2021 and said more work is needed to study links with PFAS—chemicals found in local soil and water. New Hampshire Bulletin

- ➤ New Hampshire's housing market showed signs of improvement in September with year-over-year increases in closed sales and inventory—median single-family home prices rose to $535,000 even as affordability dropped. - ➤ Friday night, the Nashua South High School football team lost at home to Manchester Memorial when senior Jacob Schuff rushed for 253 yards in a strong fourth quarter—giving Memorial a final score of 46 to 28.
