- ➤ The Front Door Agency’s Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program provides safe short-term housing, case management, and job training for young adults facing homelessness in Nashua. It started after rising youth homelessness numbers were reported and now helps participants move into affordable housing with ongoing support. Nashua Ink Link
- ➤ Retired state trooper and former Army Ranger Capt. Jeff Ladieu ran 222 miles across New Hampshire in honor of veterans and first responders, completing the challenging route to show his support for local heroes. New Hampshire Union Leader
- ➤ On Wednesday, a team of volunteers from Fortin Gage Florist and local organizations handed out over 500 bouquets along Main Street in downtown Nashua as part of the Society of American Florists' Petal it Forward initiative—giving each recipient one bouquet to keep and one to share. - ➤ CVS completed its takeover of Rite Aid by acquiring prescriptions from closed stores in 15 states — now serving over nine million former Rite Aid customers, including 19 stores in New Hampshire. WMUR
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new U.S. Drought Monitor report shows that drought in New Hampshire remains mostly unchanged despite recent rain—extreme drought now covers 53.50% of the state, a record high since 2000. No rain is forecast for the next few days and freezing ground this fall may prevent water from soaking into wells, heightening concerns among local homeowners. WMUR
- ➤ Hayley LaPoint said fall colors have peaked in the Lakes Region and most of southern New Hampshire while trees in the north lose their leaves from strong winds. Scenic drives along Route 101 offer a great chance this weekend to see colors with highs in the mid- to upper 60s and rain expected on Monday — visitors can plan their trips accordingly. WMUR
- ➤ Residents in New Hampshire may have seen faint aurora borealis early this morning from a weak solar storm, and they can try to view the dim comet Lemmon in the western sky about an hour after sunset tonight—using binoculars or a camera’s time-lapse mode may help capture the view. WMUR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess announced Tuesday night that the deal to clean up the former Mohawk Tannery site has closed—cleanup will begin in the spring and take about a year before work on 500 housing units, mostly affordable, starts. WMUR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas warned that if ACA tax credits expire at the end of this year, health insurance premiums may rise 75% nationwide and centers serving low-income families may face a 40% cost increase. He urged officials to act soon to prevent worsening care and unaffordable costs across the system. WMUR
