COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WMUR is asking local residents to nominate a Hero Among Us who has made a measurable impact by going above and beyond in their daily lives. Those who submitted a nomination after January and did not receive a response are asked to re-submit via the provided form or email.  WMUR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Leda Lanes was torn down on Amherst Street to make way for a new plaza while Lake Estate officially opened today as the area's strip malls and chain stores change—future developments are planned along the busy corridor.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • At KC's Rib Shack in Manchester, patrons can try the Feedbag Shovel Challenge by finishing a 6-pound pile of barbecue that has ribs, pulled pork, Italian sausage, brisket, chicken, collard greens, baked beans and cornbread — a tough test for both individuals and groups. Owner Kevin Cornish, who has kidney disease, said the event brings the community together — his recent Facebook post has led many people to seek kidney testing.  WMUR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Taylor Swift's new album 'The Life of a Showgirl' was released at midnight Friday when Target stores in Concord, Nashua and Somersworth opened early for ticket holders who entered at 11:45 p.m. Thursday—she made it available on vinyl, CD and cassette, marking her first studio album since she gained full control of her music catalog.  WMUR
  • Every Friday this month, Fritz Wetherbee's Haunted New Hampshire airs encore presentations of his spooky tales. This week, the program revisits stories from 2015—offering a chilling treat for loyal fans.  WMUR
  • The city approved a mural project at Renaissance Park where artist J. Graham will work with local students—painting on a 70-foot wall in the spring to honor Nashua’s French-Canadian heritage.   • Exeter artist Yeonsoo Kim is drawing attention with his unique ceramic pieces that reflect his journey from a small South Korean island to winning a Best of Show award from the Smithsonian—he is now a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen. His work, which features bright colors, self-portraits, and ocean themes, continues to attract both collectors and new buyers.  WMUR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southern New Hampshire University placed athletic director Anthony Fallacaro and men's hockey coach Sean Walsh on administrative leave after concerns were raised in the athletics department. A spokesperson said the move is a proactive measure that does not imply wrongdoing (no reason was given) and the university will keep reviewing the situation (further updates may follow).  WMUR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mourning cloak butterfly numbers have dropped by about 70% and overall butterfly counts have declined by one-third across the Northeast due to habitat loss, climate change, and pesticide use. Lawmakers and conservationists plan to work together to tighten restrictions on neonicotinoids and other pesticides—steps they say may protect insects and support farming.  New Hampshire Bulletin
  • Northern lights were visible in parts of New Hampshire late Friday night and early today when clear skies allowed a green and red glow to shine. Residents are encouraged to seek open views north—away from city lights—and use a phone camera’s timelapse if the auroras reappear later.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Oct 1, candidates for wards 1, 2, and 5 met at the Nashua Public Library to discuss the city’s tax rate, affordable housing, and homelessness, with some calling for a broader tax base and zoning updates to ease the burden on residents & improve access to housing. HEALTH NEWS

  • Anthem and Martin’s Point will stop offering Medicare Advantage plans in NH starting in 2026 while Aetna will cover only Hillsborough and Rockingham counties—leaving affected enrollees a special enrollment period to choose another provider.  New Hampshire Bulletin

  • Souhegan head football coach Robin Bowkett spoke with Mike Cronin about the matchup with Hanover, praising strong leadership and team chemistry—while noting new challenges with a fresh lineup. He said the conversation showed how the team worked hard to build on last season's win.  WMUR
