CULTURE NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Governor and Executive Council appointed Dr. Nathaniel Greene as the director of New Hampshire Department of Education’s Division of Education Analytics and Resources, where he will manage bureaus such as Assessment and Accountability and Education Statistics. Greene, who has eight years of experience at the department, said he was honored to serve educators and families statewide.  Nashua Ink Link

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kelly Ayotte urged lawmakers today to reach a deal to end the federal government shutdown—two Senate proposals failed and about 6,000 federal workers along with over 500 military personnel are working without pay. State officials said unemployment benefits will help cover missed paychecks if the shutdown continues.  WMUR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials say two people with tuberculosis visited Manchester and Nashua while infectious and are urging anyone who was at key spots to get tested. People who visited 1269 Café at 456 Union St. in Manchester from Jan 1 to March 1—at the Loads of Love event at Wash Street Laundromat at 1231 Elm St. from Jan 1 to July 17 on Monday and Thursday nights from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.—or the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections at 445 Willow St. in Manchester from April 16 to 25 and May 9 to Aug. 15 should seek TB testing at local health centers.  WMUR

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Today, Jana Olenio of SUP YO Adventures leads a paddleboard yoga class on the Contoocook River in Concord where instructor Sharon Acres stresses balance—participants like Darlene Pina work to master challenging moves. SUP YO Adventures now offers sunset paddles, kids’ classes and retreats for those eager to connect with nature.  WMUR

SPORTS NEWS

  • A study by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center shows that about one in six southern New England residents occasionally wager on sports. Massachusetts and Connecticut residents bet more often while New Hampshire residents are less likely—only 7 percent of non-Patriots fans place bets compared to 29 percent of those watching many Patriots games.  WMUR
  • University of New Hampshire football is set to play No. 19 Villanova on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.—the team aims to build on a 24-6 win over Albany and a 3-2 record at Wildcat Stadium.  WMUR
