COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Families gathered on Sunday morning at Main Dunstable Elementary School for Chalk the Walk — they decorated the sidewalks with positive messages to show school pride. Adam Porter, the school's PTO president, said organizers plan to host larger community events in the future. WMUR
- ➤ Mary Duquette and Myra Nikitas of the Traveling Tooth Fairies nonprofit have been named Heroes Among Us for brightening Nashua students' smiles with dental care visits. Their work helps kids get needed dental care and feel better about themselves. WMUR
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Today, Brian Gottlieb, director of the NH Economic and Labor Information Bureau, said the number of unemployed residents rose by 23,740 from last August while employed numbers dropped by 1,001. He explained that many of the new unemployed are first-time job seekers—an indicator of uncertainty over tariff policies that may slow future hiring. WMUR

- ➤ Meteorologist Kevin Skarupa visited KinderCare in Nashua today to answer students’ questions about rainbows, snowflake formation and why lightning is so loud—providing an engaging lesson on weather phenomena. WMUR
- ➤ Sean O'Brien, home horticulture program manager at UNH Extension, explained how to identify different types of mushrooms by showing the difference between gilled mushrooms and polypores (which have tube-like structures) and advised residents to use books or learn from an expert before foraging. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ New Hampshire Fish and Game will hold a public hearing on Oct. 28 at 12:30 p.m. at its headquarters (11 Hazen Drive, Concord) to discuss a proposal that would extend the Hike Safe Card’s coverage to include domestic partners and their children; the card currently exempts users from repaying rescue costs. - ➤ U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen toured Marguerite’s Place in Nashua with local officials to review plans for a new four-story expansion facility and potential federal funding. The new building will replace an old structure and add 15 transitional apartments, a community classroom and expanded daycare services—aimed at helping families facing housing challenges. - ➤ Melissa Grenier of the Alzheimer's Association and volunteer Kerry Denise explained that early signs of Alzheimer’s affect memory and work in Manchester—families face high emotional and financial costs. They urged New Hampshire residents to join upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in Portsmouth, Merrimack, Keene and Lebanon to help raise awareness and support research. WMUR
