CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Tiffany Chang, a finalist for the Symphony NH director role, will make her debut on September 27 at the Keefe Center Auditorium during the Unexpected Stories event. She will speak at 6:30 p.m. before her concert begins at 7:30 p.m.—her people-first leadership has earned her several national awards. Nashua Ink Link
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Kelly Ayotte said she is reaching out to the education secretary by letter and call to save federal funds for TRIO and GEAR UP programs that help over 1,000 low-income students get into college in New Hampshire—community leaders are starting a formal appeals process to contest the cuts. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Meteorologist Hayley LaPoint said that foliage is ramping up north of the Notches and trees away from the coast are bursting with red and orange colors. Cold nights sped up the change — though drought has stressed some trees — and peak colors are expected around average times. WMUR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Manchester-Boston Regional Airport staged a mock plane crash drill Thursday that simulated an aircraft hitting a vehicle on the runway; the training involved over 75 agencies + 100 volunteers + local hospitals and did not affect flight schedules. WMUR
- ➤ On Tuesday night, designLAB architects presented four redevelopment plans for Nashua Public Library including renovating, adding on, replacing, or relocating the building with cost estimates from $33.9 to $51.6 million. Library board chair Linda Laflamme said the board chose the renovation and addition options to best serve patrons — and the design process may begin soon with detailed discussions. Nashua Ink Link
- ➤ Legislative leaders said that the $35 million parking garage project (with 409 spaces) kitty-corner to the State House remains on schedule. It is expected to be completed by mid-March 2026. New Hampshire Union Leader
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Three hundred nursing students enrolled in a federally funded program at Elliot Hospital will get help with tuition, child care and utility bills from the Granite State PARTNERS program—funded by a $3 million Department of Labor grant—to ease New Hampshire's nursing shortage. U.S. Sens. Jean Shaheen and Maggie Hassan joined a recent celebration of the program to stress the growing need for health care professionals. WMUR
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The budget review committee recommended that the Board approve developer agreements for Phase 1 of Maynard Homes Redevelopment, which will demolish 70 units to create 179 new affordable housing units. The project will be exempt from local real estate taxes and fees — with annual payments starting in tax year 2029 through tax year 2041 — while also waiving up to $425,000 in permit and impact fees.
