- ➤ Former Yankee Magazine editor Mel Allen will discuss his new book Here in New England at Balin Books on Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. in Nashua—he will introduce the collection with fresh context and sign copies at Somerset Plaza in a free event. Nashua Ink Link
- ➤ Today, a White Mountains painter will hike with her canvas on her back to capture scenic views while Chronicle readies a street corn segment with Chef David Vargas. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A U.S. Drought Monitor report said more than one-fifth of New Hampshire now is in extreme drought, with 22.82% affected compared to last week's 7.33%. Areas hit hardest include most of Grafton County and half of Carroll County in the White Mountains region — Nashua remains only abnormally dry — and over 93% of the state is in some stage of drought. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, the New Hampshire Executive Council approved an extension on a contract to oversee work bringing high speed internet to rural areas funded by the American Rescue Plan Act that will run until the end of 2026. Governor Kelly Ayotte said the broadband expansion is key to attracting more federal funds & the state is nearly 99 percent wired. WMUR
- ➤ Paula Johnson—who has served as an Alderman, Board of Education member, and State Representative—announced her candidacy for Ward 5 Alderman and builds her platform on low taxes, quality education, and responsible spending. - ➤ Nashua South senior Joshua Tripp (defensive back and wide receiver) was named to the D1 West All-Conference team and credited his teammates and coaches for his achievement.
