- ➤ Manchester police warn residents about the potent synthetic opioid carfentanil—used as a veterinary tranquilizer for large animals—that when mixed into street drugs has caused 10 deaths in New Hampshire this year, including three in Manchester, while overdoses from other substances have declined. - ➤ Legendary actor and director Robert Redford died at 89 yesterday in Manchester after a career that spanned six decades and featured films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. In 1987 he visited Dartmouth College and received the Dartmouth Film Award from the local Film Society—recognizing his contributions to film and his role in founding the Sundance Institute. WMUR

- ➤ Homeowners in New Hampshire have seen wells run dry as drought conditions worsen and state officials warned that extreme drought is expected to spread statewide in the coming weeks—companies like Epping Well & Pump reported more calls from families with shallow wells. WMUR
- ➤ Researchers in New England say that winter snowpack is shrinking each year because of climate change, and they are combining data from over 400 sites to learn how the decline affects water and tree health—local experts in Nashua are also asking citizens to share their own measurements through a smartphone app. The ongoing work may lead to a new tool to help forecast drier conditions later in the season. - ➤ On Tuesday, two whales breached the water near a boat off the New Hampshire coast as Captain Dale Sprague and his first mate reported the sighting about eight miles past the Isles of Shoals — the crew quickly pulled their lines for safety. - ➤ On Tuesday, protesters urged the Pease board to end ICE flights at Portsmouth International Airport after activists documented 407 detainee transfers from New Hampshire and nearby states—arguing that the flights deny detainees access to counsel and family. Board Chairman Stephen Duprey said the federally funded airport must follow FAA rules, and he noted that the board will explore any possible authority to address the issue. WMUR
