COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, communities in New Hampshire held ceremonies to mark 24 years since the Sept. 11 attacks, with Portsmouth displaying a beam from the World Trade Center. In Salem, local police, fire, and Junior ROTC members transmitted the signal 5-5-5-5 during the memorial and recalled the service of first responders.  WMUR
  • Belletetes delivered 29,483 pounds of food and financial donations on Thursday to the New Hampshire Food Bank by filling three box trucks, which will provide about 24,570 meals for people in need—this donation was made in honor of Hunger Action Month after a month-long food drive in August with other lumber companies.  WMUR

  • The 50th annual New Hampshire Highland Games & Festival will begin Friday, Sept. 19 at Loon Mountain Resort with Scottish food, music, games and sports — on Saturday, Sept. 20, bagpipers will try to break a Guinness World Record for most pipers in a single performance.  WMUR
  • C’est Cheese in Hampton, CG Boards and Co. in Derry, and BOARD Wine Bar and Charcuterie near Portsmouth offer unique cheese experiences with exotic selections, custom cheeseboards and artistic presentations. They keep a tradition alive by honoring decades-old recipes and adding a creative twist to cheese making—inviting locals to enjoy a taste of New Hampshire’s best cheese.  WMUR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tariffs are causing rising prices for groceries, housing and fuel in the Northeast, and Carl Johnson of Chichester said he was shocked when extra fees made the shipping cost for parts of his 1969 Triumph nearly equal the purchase price—analysts note that the complex tariff rules are partly to blame for inflation many consumers now feel.  WMUR

  • The Nashua Regional Planning Commission will hold its fifth household hazardous waste collection of the year on Saturday, Sept. 27—residents can drop off hazardous materials at a designated site in Nashua.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • The Greater Nashua Interfaith Housing Justice group and Granite State Organizing Project will host a forum on housing with Board of Aldermen candidates at Main Street Methodist Church on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.—community members will share personal housing struggles and learn how candidates plan to address issues like the Housing Revolving Fund and Inclusionary Zoning.  Nashua Ink Link

  • A free panel discussion on PFAS is scheduled for September 16 at SOEL Sistas Café in Nashua—experts from Merrimack Citizens for Clean Water, UMass Lowell and NHDES Drinking Water and Groundwater Bureau will explain how industrial activity has led to PFAS contamination in local water sources.  Nashua Ink Link

  • Viewers voted for the best apple orchards in New Hampshire—Washburn’s Windy Hill Orchard in Greenville topped the list while Stone Mountain Farm in Belmont, Windy Ridge Orchard in North Haverhill, Meadow Ledge Farm in Loudon, and Butternut Farm in Farmington also earned votes.
