COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Caitlin McGrath-Levesque is honored as the force behind the Community Fridge Network—an initiative that fills community fridges and allows neighbors to share food, with three active fridges currently serving New Hampshire.  WMUR
  • Tiana Brown, named the New Hampshire State Youth of the Year, spoke with Hayley LaPoint about her plans to start college soon and compete in nationals in LA this September — she detailed her long-term volunteer work at the Boys and Girls Club and her choice to major in nursing to help others. This recognition highlights her commitment to community service and sets the stage for her future achievements.  WMUR
  • United Way of Greater Nashua is hosting three fall fundraisers that will bring fun while helping the community. Two planned events are Skydive United on Sept. 20 — the Poker Hand Pub Crawl, with details of a third event to come.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • Len Lathrop of the Hudson Community Food Pantry and executive director Elsy Cipriani of the New Hampshire Food Bank said the annual New Hampshire Tackles Hunger food drive lets high school football teams collect donations to support local pantries and has provided nearly 800,000 meals in 13 years — the drive will continue to help meet the need for high protein foods.  WMUR

CRIME NEWS

  • The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office and state police announced Sunday that the final victim of the Bear Brook murders—previously known as the 'middle child'—has been identified as Rea Rasmussen, born in 1976 in Orange County; she is the biological daughter of Terry Peder Rasmussen and Pepper Reed, who has not been seen since the late 1970s.  WMUR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saint Anselm has dedicated its new $40 million nursing school to train more health care workers—officials said the facility will soon start enrolling students to meet rising local needs.  New Hampshire Union Leader

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forest Ranger Katharine Baughman explained how to cool hot coals and properly extinguish a campfire at Pawtuckaway State Park (a key step to prevent wildfires) and urged campers to check that no heat remains before leaving the area.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Three newcomers and one incumbent have declared their bids for one of three open Nashua alderman-at-large seats as voters will cast ballots on November 4 — several challengers have also signed up for school board offices to offer more choices in the election. The contests will determine changes in local leadership ahead of the vote.  New Hampshire Union Leader

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Las Vegas Raiders beat the New England Patriots 20-13 on Sunday at Gillette Stadium with former UNH running back Dylan Laube, who had two returns for 65 yards, and UNH graduate Chip Kelly serving as the offensive coordinator. Laube, in his second season after being drafted in 2024, received strong support from fans including former UNH coach Sean McDonnell.  WMUR
