COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Blue Angels have arrived at Pease Air National Guard Base ahead of the Thunder over New Hampshire Air Show in Portsmouth, set for Sept. 6-7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—their performance will be the first in New Hampshire since 2012, flying as fast as 700 mph and as close as 18 inches apart.  WMUR
  • Fortin Gage Flowers in downtown Nashua held a vase drive that collected over 1,200 gently used vases—each triggering a $1 donation to local nonprofits, which now totals $1,200; the drive saved an estimated 2,250 lbs of CO2 and will continue with September donations benefiting Meals on Wheels.  Nashua Ink Link

CRIME NEWS

  • A Nashua man who was reported missing in late July has been found safe at home—police said.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • Chris Caron, who surrendered to police over the weekend, was arraigned Tuesday on a murder charge after Declan Perry’s body—a 27-year-old Hooksett native—was found wrapped in blankets in a car outside South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after reports emerged that he and Caron used drugs late last month at his home in Scituate.  WMUR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School is back in Nashua and First Student operates 150 yellow school buses that bring children to school in the Gate City and surrounding areas. New drivers will complete 40 to 60 hours of training—learning bus controls and mirror use—to earn their CDL before driving in bad weather and heavy traffic.  WMUR

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Little rain over recent weeks dropped Lake Winnipesaukee's water level to 502.82 feet, about one and a half feet below full lake level. Boaters are advised to trim up their props & slow down in shallow areas to avoid stirring up sediment that can cloud the water and fuel harmful algal blooms.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Hampshire transportation officials approved a $4.6 million plan to add 21,000 feet of cable barriers, 11,000 feet of guardrail and 700 feet of concrete along a dangerous 5-mile stretch of I-95 used by 85,000 to 100,000 drivers every day—days after a crash in North Hampton sent four people to a hospital with two seriously injured.  WMUR
  • New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella named over a dozen people to the new Domestic Violence Fatality Review Committee—set up to examine past cases and advise on prevention. The panel will study incidents to guide future policy changes.  New Hampshire Union Leader

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials in New Hampshire say whooping cough cases are rising among children, with 63 cases recorded statewide by June 30. Doctors at Elliot Hospital in Manchester reported 13 cases and stress that early vaccination is critical as school resumes - urging parents to update immunizations.  WMUR
