CRIME NEWS

  • Gabby Petito’s parents attended a rally Friday at the State House in Concord to support families of missing and murdered loved ones and to urge authorities to boost efforts in solving cold cases—organizers included the Gabby Petito Foundation and the New Hampshire Coalition of Families of the Missing and Murdered while the Attorney General’s Office added two investigators to work on 129 cases.  WMUR
  • A New Hampshire State Police trooper, Colin Burgess, shot a 28-year-old woman on Spaulding Turnpike in Dover after a police chase in April—he fired when she allegedly exited her vehicle holding an object—and the Attorney General’s Office ruled his use of deadly force justified while the injured woman faces charges.  WMUR

  • As students head back to school, families in New Hampshire face rising costs for supplies and child care while inflation and tariffs add to the burden—U.S. Rep. Pappas met with local leaders Tuesday at the Boys and Girls Club in Manchester.  WMUR

  • New Hampshire State Parks mark 90 years by highlighting their history and offering visitors ways to enjoy nature from the mountains to the sea—while a seacoast coffee shop embraces a slogan inspired by a negative customer review.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Police Col. Mark Hall renamed the Move Over Law to Sherrill’s Law at a ceremony in Epping to honor fallen trooper Jesse Sherrill—he was struck by a tractor trailer on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth in October 2021. Governor Kelly Ayotte signed Senate Bill 273 to expand the law’s protection for all stopped vehicles, and the new law will take effect Sept. 13.  New Hampshire Bulletin
  • U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan joined a roundtable yesterday with business leaders and researchers to spotlight New Hampshire industries and discuss aerospace and biotechnology work—she said the meeting aimed to boost the economy, improve health care, and protect national security.  WMUR
  • Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander raised concerns over the Nongfu Springs deal in Nashua because the purchase near sensitive military and water facilities may threaten national and economic security. She sent a letter on August 5th to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent asking the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to review the transaction—part of ongoing efforts to protect critical assets.  Nashua Ink Link
