COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Many Granite Staters saw a cloudy spiral light Tuesday night over areas such as Hooksett, Wilton, Chichester, and Lake Winnipesaukee—astronomer Jonathan McDowell said it was likely from the deorbit of the Ariane 6 rocket’s upper stage that launched at 8:37 p.m. ET from French Guiana.  WMUR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On August 12, 2025, more than 130 Fidelity employees volunteered at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School in Nashua to paint a storage shed, add a mural of Moe the Moose, and refresh playground lines for the upcoming school year—organized by Boston Cares to support the local community and improve the school's appearance.  Nashua Ink Link

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Starting Jan. 1, New Hampshire will charge a $3.50 per ton surcharge on solid waste disposed at its six landfills and waste-to-energy facility — the fee will fund waste management salaries and grant projects to improve recycling and compost efforts. Municipalities, businesses and institutions will pay the fee, although in-state towns will receive a full quarterly rebate.  New Hampshire Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kelly Ayotte called for more scrutiny of the sale of a Nashua warehouse to Nongfu Spring, China's leading bottled water producer—questioning the above-market price and urging a federal review. Councilor Dave Wheeler said the feds would investigate while Mayor Jim Donchess noted the state economic department had facilitated the sale.  WMUR

  • Former UNH quarterback Max Brosmer, a backup for the Vikings, may suit up against the Patriots in their second preseason game Saturday at 1 p.m.—he posted a strong performance against the Texans last weekend and spent five years as UNH's starting quarterback before transferring.  WMUR
