- ➤ Policy analyst Jessica Williams explained that New Hampshire’s population increased by 30,300 over the past four years, with smaller communities gaining numbers due to more housing options (especially in the Lakes and White Mountains areas) while larger cities like Manchester and Nashua saw modest rebounds. Fred Kocher added that towns such as Merrimack, Salem and Dover experienced the fastest growth as more people moved in since the pandemic. WMUR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A New York man (23-year-old Jaymark Larios from the Bronx) was sentenced to two years in prison for his role in a multi-state bank fraud scheme that defrauded 22 banks, including in New Hampshire, of $93,200 by using stolen personal data from 28 victims and 20 businesses, and he must also serve three years of supervised release and pay restitution, prosecutors said. - ➤ An article details the confusing past of Quincy Street Fire Station, which was built around 1884, updated in 1898, and decommissioned in 1901 before part of it was used as a school and slated for demolition in 1928 due to safety concerns. - ➤ New Hampshire’s lottery has grown since the late 1980s, and profits have recently exceeded $207 million, making it a key source for the Education Trust Fund & now providing nearly one-fifth of its support. - ➤ A Peterborough man who was held in Canada for nearly a month after U.S. border officials denied his entry due to two decades-old marijuana convictions returned home after a state court vacated his pleas in early July. - ➤ More than 650,000 Granite Staters had their mailing addresses affected by the 2024 data breach involving Change Healthcare and its vendors. The company finished sending notification letters—reporting that up to 192 million Americans may have been impacted nationwide. WMUR
- ➤ New Hampshire’s Executive Council approved a contract on July 30 to study ways to expand women’s access to health services and a second contract to help state regulators verify that insurance covers services required by the Affordable Care Act.
