Good morning, Nashua. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 1st of August.

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New Hampshire officials said Canadian tourist numbers dropped 30% this summer because international volatility and economic challenges led visitors to spend their dollars elsewhere—weather and higher gas prices may also be factors. Gov. Kelly Ayotte said a trade delegation in September will work to strengthen economic ties with Canada.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kelly Ayotte signed a law yesterday that will end surprise ambulance bills and set new rates for insurance to pay ambulance companies. The law takes effect in January and will be reviewed for two years (to help keep rural services strong).  WMUR
  • New Hampshire became the first state to require doctors to perform sterilization when patients request it for medical conditions. Gov. Ayotte signed the bipartisan law on July 15, and it stops doctors from refusing the procedure based on a patient's age, number of children or marital status — a historic move amid national shifts in reproductive policies.  New Hampshire Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new Dartmouth Cancer Center opened in Manchester to give patients care like exams, lab tests, chemotherapy and radiation with a linear accelerator—serving up to 40 patients daily—and the first treatment took place on Tuesday. Officials said the center had been planned for 18 years and began construction over a year ago to offer more personalized care.  WMUR
