Governor Kelly Ayotte will sign Senate Bill 267 that increases penalties for paying for sex by imposing a mandatory $500 fine and reclassifying the offense as a Class A misdemeanor — punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.

The law, sponsored by Sen. Donovan Fenton, takes effect on Jan. 1, 2026 and aims to fight human trafficking.

City officials say the winter warming station will open on December 1 at Elm Street Middle School and run every night until April 15 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with extra hours on some holidays, and they plan more volunteer training — and a security officer to help manage issues seen last winter.

Helen Westergren from UNH Cooperative Extension at Sanborn Mills Farm in Loudon explained which shade-loving plants like ferns, Christmas tree ferns, hairy lip ferns and American wild ginger do well in low light.

She said gardeners should plant in spring, water well and trim back after winter so that plants can grow strong.
