COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dozens of children with special needs joined over 80 youngsters for Surfing with Smiles, an event hosted three times each summer by Cinnamon Rainbows Surf Co. on North Beach in Hampton — organizers said the positive experience boosts confidence and creates lasting summer memories.  WMUR
  • Swim With A Mission raised over $2.7 million over a three-day weekend of events that included a record-breaking paintball fundraiser on July 11th at OSG Paintball in Barnstead, where Navy SEALs and business leaders teamed up for leadership training — raising $1.4 million in one event. The group also hosted a swim race on July 12th at Newfound Lake and will hold a motorcycle ride on September 13th in Manchester along with a run on November 9th to support veteran service organizations.  Nashua Ink Link
  • The NH Veterans Home will host its annual Cruise Night on Thursday in August to show classic cars and offer an evening of patriotism—inviting local residents to join in summer fun.  New Hampshire Union Leader

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A new report by transportation research group TRIP shows that traffic-related deaths in New Hampshire increased by 42% from 2014 to 2024 while fatality rates went up 36% and crashes cost the state $11 billion. Researchers said distracted and impaired driving is the main factor—improvements like better lighting and clearer turn lanes at busy intersections may help reduce future losses.  WMUR

CRIME NEWS

  • A Pelham man faces an animal cruelty charge after allegedly abandoning a cat locked in a small crate outside a pet center on July 7 during a heat advisory—investigators said the cat was adopted by Kenneth Kimber two days earlier and that he is scheduled to be arraigned next month.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Air Force Global Strike Command paused the use of the M18 pistol made by SIG Sauer in Newington after a security forces airman died on a Wyoming base this week — the weapon will not be used until the investigation is complete.  WMUR
  • The new state budget cut government jobs and left smaller agencies in New Hampshire worried about service impacts. The Department of Corrections suffered larger cuts while the Office of the Child Advocate dropped from nine workers to five — delaying case reviews.  WMUR
