CRIME NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Nashua Board of Education adopted a 'bell to bell' ban on personal devices Monday night to meet state law, which now requires schools to restrict use from the first bell until dismissal. The policy bans cell phones, laptops, tablets and smartwatches to protect the learning environment and will be refined at the next board meeting on August 25 — ensuring clear consequences for repeat violations. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ John Broderick, who managed the YDC Settlement Fund, is leaving as his independent role was eliminated and changed to a political appointment—Governor Ayotte thanked him for his service while Broderick said he was simply finishing his duties. WMUR
- ➤ Gov. Kelly Ayotte signed 10 bills last week to ease local zoning rules so more homes can be built. The new laws let homeowners build extra units and allow mixed uses in commercial zones while some proposals for more affordable housing funding did not pass — leaving both developers and housing groups with mixed views. New Hampshire Bulletin
- ➤ A new report by the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute shows that New Hampshire gained over 30,000 people between 2020 and 2024, with Epping and Merrimack growing fastest (Merrimack added over 2,000 residents) as fewer remote work options led more people to return to daily commutes. The report also notes declines in areas like Keene, Berlin and Durham (attributed to rising housing costs) while nearly three-fourths of the population remains in the southeastern counties. WMUR
