Good morning, Nashua. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 29th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two local fishermen Elias Alexandropoulos and his brother Kosta caught a nearly 500-pound swordfish on June 23 off New Hampshire and brought it to Wentworth Marina in New Castle — where it was prepared before being sold to a local seafood market for Granite Staters and visitors to enjoy.  WMUR
  • On June 21, first mate RJ Lincoln took a group on a bachelorette cruise and said they saw a 30-foot basking shark off Rye Harbor that was as long as their 40-foot boat. Later, they spotted a smaller shark that hit its tail fin against the boat — scaring the passengers, Lincoln said after decades in the fishing business.  WMUR
  • The Greater Nashua Prevention Coalition, formerly known as the Nashua Prevention Coalition, now has a new director, Danielle Crowe, and will expand its role to support youth mental health while continuing its mission to keep kids healthy and substance free. The group will roll out initiatives like the Prevention Series at Dr. Crisp elementary and the Sunshine Project in Merrimack and Hudson communities — efforts that build trust with local children and show the community is here for them — as it broadens its programs.  Nashua Ink Link

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State police reminded motorcyclists to slow down, limit distractions and remain visible on the roads this summer — latest data published Monday shows 10 riders died in crashes so far, down from 12 last year. Officials launched a media safety campaign ahead of Motorcycle Week to encourage helmet use and sober driving.  WMUR

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Holman Stadium Friday night, the Silver Knights, appearing as the Nashua Pride in tribute to the city's former baseball team, lost 6—4 to the Worcester Bravehearts before a sold-out crowd. The Knights rallied twice but ultimately fell short in key innings and will face a home doubleheader tomorrow.  Nashua Ink Link
