COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Alyssa O’Mara began her role as executive director of Great American Downtown in Nashua about a month ago—she is rebuilding the volunteer list, planning a new VIBE MAP website, and restarting the seasonal farmers market, which had its soft opening on Sunday, June 22, and will run every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until October 26. She said the market will expand in July with more vendors and planned community events.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Private First Class George A. Curley Jr.—an 18-year-old soldier from Laconia captured during the Korean War—returned to American soil yesterday when his remains arrived by plane in Boston; an escort began from Exit 20 in Tilton at 5 p.m. and services are planned for Saturday.  WMUR

CRIME NEWS

  • Police said 18-year-old Divaris Ojani Ruiz from Manchester fired multiple shots from his black Ford Mustang at Hampton Beach Tuesday night, striking three people and leading to a chase into Deerfield (where a shelter-in-place order was issued) before his arrest occurred.  WMUR

  • Ink Link News earned 11 awards at the NHPA Excellence in Journalism Awards Banquet held on June 12, 2024 at Saint Anselm College—five of which were first-place honors—recognizing outstanding achievements by its Manchester and Nashua editions.  Nashua Ink Link

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The budget review committee on Monday night recommended that the Board of Aldermen approve cost items in the new collective bargaining agreement between the Nashua Board of Education and the Nashua Teachers’ Union. The contract includes a 3.7 percent increase over the next four years, raising starting teacher pay to about $48,000 and improving salary steps—making the district more competitive.  Nashua Ink Link

  • Scott Brown, a former senator from Massachusetts, said on Wednesday he is running for the U.S. Senate seat in New Hampshire to replace retiring Sen. Jeanne Shaheen—he faces Rep. Chris Pappas and criticized his policies for making life harder for Granite Staters.  New Hampshire Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • On June 27, the Public Health and Community Services Division will offer free, confidential HIV testing in Nashua and Milford—covering sites including a soup kitchen, a field, a health office, and near a stadium.
