ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A garage fire spread to a Cape Cod-style house Saturday evening in Nashua — killing two dogs — and caused no injuries to people, fire officials said.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • Two dogs died in a house fire on Gordon Street in Nashua Saturday—fire crews found the blaze had moved from the garage to the house while everyone else escaped safely—and officials are investigating the cause.  WMUR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historical records show that on July 28, 1920 Nashua’s veteran firefighter Paul Hysette died on duty from internal bleeding as an unusual silence from the station horses warned of a loss—later, on March 14, 1922, a fire at the Indian Head Bank/Telegraph building caused heavy damage with an estimated loss of $115,000 while firefighters preserved part of the structure for continued use. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Hampshire lawmakers reached a compromise on Senate Bill 245 to end surprise ambulance bills by keeping the rate at 325% of the federal Medicare rate until an actuarial study adjusts it in two years. Gov. Kelly Ayotte will soon decide whether to sign the bill into law, which will help patients avoid extra charges for ambulance rides.  New Hampshire Bulletin
  • New Hampshire lawmakers advanced a new regulatory framework for gambling laws that gives towns the power to vote to ban game licenses and shifts lottery licenses to a three-year term with revised fees — they also delayed Keno changes for 18 months so communities can decide.  WMUR
  • Fred Kocher reported that the New Hampshire legislature proposed cutting the Commission on Aging's budget, and the Senate later restored some funds to help the agency serve a growing older population in the state. Executive Director Lilly Wellington and Center on Aging co-director Jennifer Rabalais said the changes could affect crucial support services for seniors.  WMUR
  • Rep. Maggie Goodlander said that the idea of women staying at home is not a fix for New Hampshire’s childcare crisis — it is costing the state millions in lost wages and forcing working families to make tough choices. She pledged to work with local providers and lawmakers to boost support for childcare and affordable housing.  WMUR
  • Anti-war protests took place across New Hampshire on Sunday after US strikes hit three nuclear facilities in Iran. Protesters in Concord, Nashua, Portsmouth and Manchester said they fear violence and a potential nuclear war and urged Congress to step in — a call to prevent further conflict.  WMUR
