COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Meals on Wheels of Hillsborough County has elected Carolyn Oguda as its new board chair, effective February, and she will lead a three-year strategic plan to expand services for older and disabled adults. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Josh Reap and Daryl Luter said a severe shortage of skilled construction workers is slowing housing, commercial and highway projects in our region as fewer young people join the trades and older workers retire. They noted that new training programs (like a construction academy) will help build a stronger local workforce for future projects.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Disability rights advocates said bills that would require proof of identity for absentee ballots and allow towns to opt out of providing accessible voting machines could make it harder for people with disabilities to vote. Lawmakers will debate the proposals this week as part of efforts to tighten voting rules in our state.  New Hampshire Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mental health advocates pushed for a Senate budget provision to require private insurers to pay for wraparound services from the FAST Forward program that helped families like Cheryl Guerin’s get care, and they say the plan will lower long-term state costs; insurers, however, warn it may lead to higher premiums (current taxpayer costs are about $1.9 million a year).  New Hampshire Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • High school sports in New Hampshire will end this weekend when 11 state champions are crowned on Saturday—teams in baseball, softball, lacrosse and volleyball battled for the titles. Several teams earned their first championship in years during intense matchups to wrap up the season.  WMUR
