  • Property owners on Celina Avenue installed a loud alarm that plays the message — 'You are trespassing. Please leave the area' — if someone comes within three feet of the property amid complaints of theft, damage and extra trash pickup fees. Unhoused residents say the alarm makes life harder and Mayor Jim Donchess noted that finding a lasting fix is difficult as local housing costs remain a challenge.  WMUR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the New Hampshire Supreme Court ruled in the Rand case that towns with high property values may keep extra funds from the education tax, setting the stage for a budget debate; the court will next consider the ConVal case challenging per-student funding—state lawmakers praise the decision while critics worry it may keep inequality in place.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Advocates urged lawmakers on Wednesday to protect New Hampshire’s mental health system as the state budget process neared its final stages—citing a gap in wraparound services that forces children to worsen before qualifying for care and warning that cuts could reverse recent progress.  WMUR
  • The New Hampshire Department of Transportation said that almost 90% of state roads are in good or fair shape based on data from 2023 to 2024. The agency maintains 4,600 miles of roads with a three-year repaving plan and new technology—guiding its work to keep roads safe.  WMUR

  • The Board of Aldermen approved a new housing project on the Nimco Property on Pine Street that will include 300 units—20% affordable—to boost downtown living. Some board members raised concerns about parking fees, but officials said the small units are not expected to draw many families.  WMUR
