FINANCE NEWS

  • A New Hampshire man won $50,000—by buying hot dogs and two scratch tickets at a convenience store in Joppa, Maryland—while on a work assignment; he claimed the prize on May 23 before returning home and said he plans to use some of it to buy a fishing rod.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kelly Ayotte, state police and the Marine Trades Association met in Gilford on Friday to urge boaters to follow safety rules as summer approaches—ensuring that life jackets, sound devices, fire extinguishers, registration and proper certifications are in place. Officials said over 100,000 boats were registered last year and that equipment checks will be performed during boating stops.  WMUR
  • Sen. Maggie Hassan said she was shocked by Director Kristi Noem's inverted definition of habeas corpus during the May 20 Senate hearing. Hassan explained that she expected a clear explanation of the constitutional right—used to challenge detention—and emphasized its importance.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander met with Nashua Center staff, clients, and healthcare professionals on May 28 to discuss pending cuts to Medicaid funding proposed in the FY reconciliation bill—she warned that reduced Medicaid support could strain services at the center and lead to hospital closures. Center leaders stressed that Medicaid, which funds 98% of their operations, is essential for serving children and adults with developmental disabilities and acquired brain disorders.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Traffic data from the New Hampshire Department of Transportation showed that over Memorial Day weekend 1,312,252 vehicles passed through toll plazas (a decrease of about 0.8% compared to last year) and on Memorial Day 309,524 vehicles passed compared to 283,759 in 2024 as traffic picked up on Monday.  WMUR

  • Derry’s Liam Doyle, a Pinkerton Academy alumnus, led the Vols to a 9-2 win over Miami University on Friday by striking out 11 batters and allowing just one run—he earned SEC Pitcher of the Year honors and is expected to be the second pick in the MLB draft by the Los Angeles Angels, potentially breaking a local record set by Carlton Fisk in 1967.  WMUR
  • Pinkerton baseball beat Windham to complete its undefeated regular season. The team will play Louisville tomorrow night.  WMUR
