  • Kids 12 and younger will get a free ice cream scoop offered by Nashua Police and Fire Rescue at Hayward's Ice Cream on Daniel Webster Highway on May 16 from 12-3 p.m., while the Sweet Treat 5K run starts at Rivier University at 10:30 a.m. and ends across the street.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Viewers recently chose their favorite bagel shops across New Hampshire; What A Bagel in Nashua earned top marks for its fresh, daily-made bagels while Big Dave's Bagels + Deli in North Conway, Bagel Alley in Nashua, Big Dog Eats in Milford, and Bagel Mill in Peterborough followed.  WMUR

  • JetBlue will end service to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport this summer; the last flight is set for July 8 and airport officials will search for new carriers while hoping to welcome JetBlue back later.  WMUR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Four sculptors are creating public art on the theme Gathering Momentum at Picker Artists Studios from May 18 to June 3. Residents can watch them work daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and attend a sculptor talk at the Currier Museum on May 23 — a dynamic art experience.  Nashua Ink Link

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nashua Community College celebrated 22 nursing graduates at a Pinning Ceremony on Thursday, May 14, marking the start of careers at local healthcare providers (Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Lahey Hospital, and Concord Hospital). A Commencement Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 18 at 2 p.m.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Manchester School District officials said that reallocating $8.6M in bond funds will prevent layoffs if city aldermen pass a smaller budget, a move approved by the Board of School Committee Monday. Mayor Ruais added (his plan boosted funding by $3M) while final approval is set by the end of next month.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Opening arguments were held Thursday in Washington, D.C. in an appeal against Manchester’s Wastewater Treatment Facility permit as a local advocacy group challenges its approval. The case will proceed with further review in the coming weeks.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • House lawmakers voted on Thursday to send Senate Bill 498 for interim study, delaying insurers from covering the FAST Forward wraparound mental health program. Governor Ayotte, a bill supporter, criticized insurers as the move stalls progress for at least another year.  New Hampshire Bulletin
