  • Eight chefs competed at a Disney-themed cake contest in Hollis where WMUR's Sean McDonald served as judge to raise money for the Nashua Senior Activity Center—Shelley Annestorer won with her Nightmare Before Christmas cake.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fabian Schmidt, a legal permanent resident—detained on March 7th at Boston Logan after returning from Luxembourg—has returned to his Nashua home after a two-month detention in Rhode Island. His partner requested privacy while promising a video update later.  New Hampshire Bulletin
  • Former United States Supreme Court Justice David Souter, appointed by President George H. W. Bush and serving for over 19 years, died at his New Hampshire home today at 85. Governor Kelly Ayotte and state legislators ordered flags on public buildings to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on May 14—honoring his lifelong commitment to the law.  Nashua Ink Link
  • In March, the federal government announced it was revoking $81.3 million in pandemic-related funding from New Hampshire DHHS that supported labs, vaccine outreach, and behavioral health programs. Lawmakers must now decide how to address the funding gap as the Senate debates a budget that cuts $643 million from the governor’s $16 billion proposal+ a loss that adds to fiscal challenges from reduced business revenues and high settlement costs.  New Hampshire Bulletin
  • On Tuesday, hundreds testified in Representatives Hall about the House-passed budget that includes Medicaid reimbursement cuts, elimination of the State Council on the Arts, corrections staffing reductions and changes to education freedom accounts—critics warned these measures could harm essential services. The Senate Finance Committee, chaired by Sen. James Gray, will begin making changes Friday at 1 p.m. and must deliver the revised budget to Gov. Kelly Ayotte by June 30.  New Hampshire Bulletin

  • Ahead of Mother's Day, a senior citizen exercise class in Atkinson that has met twice a week for nearly twenty years is celebrating strong bonds built through regular workouts. SPORTS NEWS

  • Nashua high school girls lacrosse teams played several games this spring with teams like Bishop Guertin and Nashua South both winning and losing, and upcoming matchups are scheduled from May 9 to May 15 — the varied scores show the season is competitive.
