COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Greater Nashua is seeking 100 volunteers for the annual Kevin Slattery Memorial Food Drive, which will happen May 30 and 31 from 10 AM to 1 PM at around 15 local grocery stores to collect donations for neighborhood pantries amid increased need.  Nashua Ink Link

CULTURE NEWS

  • David Johnson, known on YouTube as Hiker Dave NE Bigfoot, has spent 15 years exploring wooded trails near Antrim for signs of Sasquatch. The steelworker and nature lover records unusual animal tracks (and tree bends) that add a curious twist to New Hampshire folklore.  WMUR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the state rose 5 cents overnight to $4.41 per gallon, up 50 cents from a month ago. Many drivers said they adjusted routines and shopped around for cheaper fuel as Gov. Ayotte stated there are no plans to suspend the gas tax.  WMUR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nashua Community College will hold its 55th commencement ceremony on May 18 at 2 p.m. on the East Lawn by the gymnasium for 298 graduates, with over 200 expected to attend in person and awards to honor leadership and academic achievement (rain date is May 19 at 2 p.m.).  Nashua Ink Link

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Hampshire will receive nearly $30 million from Purdue Pharma's opioid settlement, with funds going toward treatment and prevention programs over the next 10 years (oversight by the opioid abatement commission will ensure proper use) as most of the money is scheduled to come in the first three years.  WMUR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Karen Morgan of Southern New Hampshire Health Merrimack Pediatrics explained that children with allergies often have a stuffy nose, congestion, and dark circles from high pollen levels. She recommended washing clothes, bathing after outdoor play, closing windows, plus trying over-the-counter treatments if symptoms persist.  WMUR

  • New Hampshire offers varied Mother’s Day events this weekend. Brookline’s Averill House Vineyard hosts a wine tasting with brunch on May 10, Stratham’s spa offers special packages, and Hampton Falls holds a free craft festival on May 9-10, with additional family activities in Candia, Derry and North Hampton.  Granite Post
