CRIME NEWS

  • On April 23, the Nashua Police Department arrested James Fidler, 54, of Ashburnham—charged on a felony warrant for theft after a report on January 24 noted more than $1,500 in construction equipment missing from 75 Manchester Street; detectives recovered several items and he will face arraignment on June 25 at 1 p.m.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Manchester police arrested 28-year-old Monica Josephson on Thursday at around 1:35 a.m. at a Temple Court home after a stabbing left a victim critically injured but stable, and she faces charges of attempted murder and first-degree assault—domestic violence related.  WMUR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After 31 years of service in the Nashua School District, McCarthy Middle School nurse Jeana Lopez-Carrasco was named New Hampshire School Nurse of the Year by the NHSNA. She also supervises nurses at 17 schools and mentors future nursing professionals to help keep students healthy.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Merrimack High School FIRST Robotics team Chop Shop 166 traveled to Houston on April 16 to compete at the FIRST Championship and reached the Einstein playoffs for the first time in the team’s 32-year history—competing against over 600 teams. The team will host its off-season event, Mayhem, on May 17 at Merrimack High School beginning at 8 a.m.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Negotiators from the Nashua Teachers’ Union and the Board of Education reached a tentative agreement on a new teachers’ contract on April 22 — marking the first such deal in 14 years. The agreement will be reviewed on May 13 by the NTU Board of Directors and then voted on by union members and the Board of Education on May 27 before final approval by the Board of Aldermen.  Nashua Ink Link

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildfire activity in New Hampshire increased 24% in 2024—burning nearly twice as many acres as in 2023—and threatened 37 structures while destroying four. Chief Steven Sherman said rapid weather changes and low humidity helped spread the fires, and Gov. Ayotte declared Wildfire Awareness Week to remind residents to follow safety rules.  New Hampshire Bulletin

  • Several UNH Wildcats are set to attract NFL draft interest this weekend after former running back Dylan Laube was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders last year; defensive end Josiah Silver, wide receiver Logan Tomlinson & safety Wande Owens are expected to impress scouts while former quarterback Max Brosmer also draws future attention.  WMUR
