COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Great American Downtown will launch its first annual Rubber Duck Regatta on May 23 — reviving a local tradition of the Rotary West Club, and that weekend the new Nashua Farmers Market opens along the Riverwalk from Bicentennial Park to the Pavilion Stage.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Today, Nashua residents can join Earth Day Community Night at Arlington Street Community Center from 5 to 7 p.m.; tomorrow, Nashua Public Library hosts a Sustainability Fair while Balin Books celebrates Independent Bookstore Day and a Healthy Kids Running Series is at Nashua High School South.  Nashua Ink Link

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Some homeowners and developers in Franklin and other Lakes Region communities have been denied new natural gas hookups because the utility’s system has reached capacity (Liberty Utilities will start engineering work soon with permits expected in 2027), forcing many to turn to propane, oil or electric alternatives.  WMUR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nashua first graders enjoyed a lively musical performance of 'Click, Clack, Moo' at the Center for the Arts on Monday, Apr. 13. Sponsored by Arts Ball Nashua, the free event brought the storybook to life with singing + dancing that boosted literacy and creativity.  Nashua Ink Link
  • State education officials announced that 11 teachers from Manchester, Derry, Hollis, Concord & five other districts have been named semifinalists for Teacher of the Year, recognizing excellence in classroom instruction.  New Hampshire Union Leader

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the National Weather Service reported elevated fire danger in southern New Hampshire due to dry, gusty winds reaching up to 30 mph and low humidity at around 20 percent, and officials urged caution to prevent wildfires (winds eased later that evening).  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Legislators voted down an open enrollment bill on Thursday amid concerns that more transferring students could raise local costs (SB 101). Lawmakers plan to revise the proposal and negotiate a new version in the House.  WMUR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Southern New Hampshire Medical Center was named one of America's Best Maternity Hospitals 2026 by Newsweek; the recognition highlights its coordinated, patient-centered care for prenatal support, labor, delivery and postpartum services that benefit local families.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Boston MedFlight hosted an open house last Thursday at the new MedFlight facility at the Manchester Boston Regional Airport to show how the expansion will shorten response times and improve emergency care for nearly 1,000 patients a year while earning support from local leaders.  Nashua Ink Link
