  • Einstein, the miniature horse known as the world’s smallest newborn horse, celebrated his 15th birthday Tuesday. Born on April 22 — he weighed 6 pounds and stood 14 inches tall — he returned to New Hampshire from Washington in October.  WMUR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Alisha McDevitt, who has been WMUR-TV's news director for 16 years, has been named president and general manager effective immediately by Hearst Television. She will mark 30 years at the station in July and takes over from Andrew Vrees as WMUR continues delivering trusted news statewide.  WMUR

CRIME NEWS

  • A Manchester man pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court for making and selling counterfeit OxyContin and Adderall with his own pill press—officials said.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • Jerry Summers, 45, pleaded guilty Tuesday morning in federal court in Manchester to charges including manufacturing and distributing pills mixed with fentanyl and meth—police said he made the pills in an office rented under a drywall company name and he will be sentenced on July 10.  WMUR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium will host four public vigils on April 25—each held from 10 a.m. to noon at 26 Kinsley St. in Nashua, 243 Hanover St. in Manchester, 172 King St. in Boscawen, and 57 High St. in Brattleboro—to offer local Catholics a quiet space to reflect on Pope Francis’ recent passing and his legacy. EDUCATION NEWS

  • After the Merrimack School District’s extension of its breakfast program improved test scores at a local middle school, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 204 to let school boards opt in to expanding free and reduced-price meals to students from families earning up to 200% of poverty levels—costs shared by state and local budgets while some House members remain skeptical.  New Hampshire Bulletin

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Hampshire lawmakers proposed taking $21.4 million from the Opioid Abatement Trust Fund to plug budget gaps, which could cut funding for opioid treatment and recovery programs. Advocates and state officials urged reversing the move – warning that using funds for law enforcement in the North Country would further disrupt vital services.  Nashua Ink Link
