  • Motorcycles have returned to local roads as weather warms and drivers remain in winter mode, leaving riders at risk. Wayne Stanley of MOST Rider Training advises refresher courses to improve safety + reduce preventable crashes.  WMUR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fred Kocher spoke with Jessica Williams from the NH Fiscal Policy Institute about 2025 labor participation data from New Hampshire, noting that women earned 81% of what men earned & experienced wider pay gaps in caregiving roles despite laws against wage discrimination.  WMUR

  • Manchester Community College will host a human services career expo on Apr. 29 (for those exploring job opportunities in the field) to connect local talent with career pathways.  New Hampshire Union Leader

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, toxic cyanobacteria blooms continue to affect New Hampshire's lakes + ponds even after $2 million was allocated for mitigation since 2023. The House passed Senate Bill 598 on April 9, and a task force may form this summer to explore new funding methods such as boat decals and raft fees.  New Hampshire Bulletin
  • A new study from the University of New Hampshire shows local ski industry professionals worry that global warming could shorten winter sports seasons, and they urge action & more support to help prepare for rising changes.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • Fire crews responded on Sunday to at least 10 brush fires in communities including Hooksett, Hampton Falls and Seabrook. Concord Battalion Chief Alan Robidas warned that dry grass and fallen leaves boost fire risks and urged residents to clear debris to protect their property.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials released an RFP to choose a nonprofit to run a new Financial Empowerment Center offering free counseling to help residents reduce debt, build savings, and improve credit. The center will operate at the library + senior center as part of Nashua’s Economic Mobility Strategy.  Nashua Ink Link

SPORTS NEWS

  • WMUR's Alanna Flood led Special Olympics New Hampshire athletes at Livingston Park in Manchester on Sunday for a sendoff for runners, including Ben Langlois and Jason Menard, who will compete in the Boston Marathon eight days from now; funds raised will support nearly 3,000 local athletes.  WMUR
