CRIME NEWS

  • Two New Jersey men were indicted in Maine for allegedly posing as government officials to steal cash and gold from victims including a Nashua resident - officials said the scheme spanned several states - and further investigation details are pending.  New Hampshire Union Leader

CULTURE NEWS

  • Guitarist Nels Cline of Wilco will perform with his jazz band the Consentrik Quartet in New Hampshire on April 7 at The Press Room in Portsmouth and on April 10 at the Nashua Center for the Arts in support of their debut album released on March 14. The shows will feature live improvisation and new music as Cline brings his blend of rock and jazz to local stages.  Nashua Ink Link

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Ukrainian family under the Uniting for Ukraine program is confused after receiving an email from the Department of Homeland Security that says their status was revoked and that they must leave within a week. New Hampshire senators said the email is likely legitimate—though it may have been sent in error—and that their offices are investigating for similar notices sent to other families.  WMUR
  • SNHU Arena is on track for one of the best years in its history, its general manager Tim Bechert said—refuting claims that the venue is sleepy.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • Officials in Manchester say New Hampshire's Safe Haven Law updated last year lets a parent anonymously surrender a baby up to 61 days old at a hospital, staffed church, fire department or law enforcement facility. Surrendered babies receive a full workup before being transferred to the Division of Children, Youth and Families while hospitals and first responders notify the state within 24 hours.  WMUR
  • U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas announced his Senate bid Thursday night in Manchester and drew a big crowd, which led political watchers to wonder if U.S. Rep. Maggie Goodlander might join the race but she said little about the contest—experts say his early move may set the stage for a competitive primary.  WMUR

  • On Friday, the Red Sox hosted the Cardinals at Fenway Park for their 125th home opener with first pitch at 2:10 p.m., and pregame ceremonies honored the 1975 championship team and retired star Luis Tiant. Also on Friday, the Fisher Cats hosted the Rumble Ponies at Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. and new manager Brent Lavalle—named 2024 Northwest League Manager of the Year—led the season opener.  WMUR
