CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This Women's History Month, a New Hampshire nonprofit called The Remedial Herstory Project is sharing 160 lesson plans and 4 textbooks on women’s history with educators worldwide; local teachers say the new materials are making classroom talks more balanced (the project started in 2017 by teacher Kelsie Brook Eckert). - ➤ New Hampshire teachers using the Remedial Herstory Project lesson plans have already noticed that students listen more to each other in class discussions. The nonprofit, which started in 2017 (founded by teacher Kelsey Brooke Eckert), now offers over 160 free lesson plans and plans to reach more classrooms. WMUR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, the New Hampshire House passed a bill that allows voters to request a hand count of their ballots — even when machines are used. The law requires poll workers to set these ballots aside in a separate compartment for a manual count after polls close. New Hampshire Bulletin
- ➤ Governor Ayotte formed a Highway Safety Task Force yesterday to review accident data and recommend measures to cut fatal crashes after a wrong-way incident on FE Everett Turnpike injured a driver in Nashua. The task force—led by Department of Safety Commissioner Robert Quinn and Attorney General John Formella—will study speeding and distracted driving to make highways safer. Nashua Ink Link
- ➤ Community Development Director Matt Sullivan said Nashua will update its land use code by the end of 2025 to align zoning rules with the Imagine Nashua Master Plan—this change will ease mixed-use, multimodal, and sustainable redevelopment in areas like the Amherst Street corridor, Daniel Webster corridor, downtown, and East Hollis Street. - ➤ The New Hampshire House passed a bill on Wednesday that will lower penalties for adults age 21 or older caught with magic mushrooms by changing charges from a felony to a simple violation with fines up to $100 on a first offense—repeat offenses could result in higher fines and a misdemeanor.
