- ➤ A Nashua woman who spent 22 years in prison for plotting her mother's murder at age 16 is eligible for parole after a judge suspended her 40-year sentence—she will present a release plan to the parole board in November. WMUR
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Ted Arcidi, who once held the title The Strongest Man, now lives in New Hampshire and works in wrestling and movies—his strongman career helped him move into Hollywood. Sean McDonald reports that a tour of international markets will soon show local residents how they can enjoy sweet candy treats from abroad. WMUR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers advanced a plan on Monday to eliminate the nation’s first state library and the state arts council to save about $6 million in a tough budget cycle—some legislators objected to cutting funding for these cultural services. WMUR
- ➤ Fabian Schmidt (34), a German national living in Nashua, was detained at Boston Logan on March 7 after returning from Luxembourg and has been held in ICE custody for 17 days while he awaits a June immigration hearing in Boston; his family says he could remain in custody for up to two months and has received few updates on his case. WMUR
- ➤ Michael Gilpatrick, who was at the Youth Development Center (1997–2000), settled his civil suit for $10 million pending legislative approval as lawmakers plan to secure more funds for other abuse claims. Lawmakers are also reviewing changes to state compensation rules pending a Supreme Court ruling (which may affect future claims). WMUR
