  • Neighbors protested the clear cutting of the historic Apple Orchard by a local NH developer, with former Conservation Commission member Louisa Varnum warning that the project disrespects Nashua’s heritage—residents are calling for a halt to the work.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • Two Holderness School juniors from Plymouth are in Poland helping Ukrainian children cope with war trauma at a four-week retreat run by Common Man for Ukraine—now in week three of the program. They say the work is rewarding—reminding them of why their help matters.  WMUR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ronald Abramson and Mark Hayward met with Fred Kocher to review how immigration affects local businesses & economy, noting a significant drop during the pandemic and a rise in H-2B visa use afterward. They warned that if deportations increase, companies may cut back on services or pay overtime with H-2B & guest workers to fill labor gaps.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State senators passed a series of bills on Thursday that override local zoning codes to ease housing development. Towns must update their ordinances by July 2026—minimum lot sizes will be set at 88,000 square feet for unsupplied lots and 22,000 for those with water and sewer—while some lawmakers warn the changes limit local control.  New Hampshire Bulletin
  • More than a dozen Granite Staters were named winners of the 2024 Trophy and Record Fish Program as NH Fish and Game honored outstanding catches; 13-year-old Stephen Whisler of Portsmouth and Douglas Shanahan of Laconia set new state records—officials said the data helps biologists study species and water bodies across New Hampshire.  WMUR

  • Firefighters in the Monadnock region are replacing old turnout gear that is contaminated with PFAS—forever chemicals linked to cancer—after local voters approved funds and new state rules now mandate purchasing safer gear.
