- ➤ Waypoint held its 11th annual SleepOut event at Bronstein Park in Manchester on Friday to raise awareness about youth homelessness (participants slept remotely to meet legal requirements). Organizers said the event has helped raise almost $3 million and spotlighted that about 15,000 young people face homelessness in New Hampshire. WMUR
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A barred owl (nicknamed Jack Pots) flew into Gate City Casino on Tuesday night and was rescued by Wings of the Dawn Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. The owl is now kept in a (100-foot by 20-foot flight cage) in Henniker and will be released back into the wild today. WMUR
- ➤ New Hampshire residents have seen more bobcats in neighborhoods as local developments push wildlife closer to homes, and conservation officer Cole Letourneau said the cats normally avoid people but may be near more often with upcoming births. He advised residents to keep a safe distance and secure trash cans and bird feeders—steps that can also discourage other wildlife like bears emerging from hibernation. WMUR

- ➤ About 50 protesters from Carroll County met outside a mental health center in Conway Friday to urge Gov. Kelly Ayotte—attending a meeting at Northern Human Services—to keep full Medicaid funding amid plans to cut state spending; she did not speak with them. New Hampshire Bulletin

- ➤ Milan native Bailey Vitello earned a trophy and $2,000 cash after finishing fifth in this year's Iditarod—race officials said he tied with Lauro Eklund for the Most Improved Musher Award, improving from a 17th-place finish in 2024. WMUR
