COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Workers at Twin Rivers Food Pantry in Franklin say household visits rose by 6% in 2024 as high food prices and tougher SNAP rules drive demand. Up to 180 households now register weekly and the pantry serves 16 communities (offering food and hygiene programs).  WMUR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • At Osborne Farm in Loudon, off-road diesel prices have risen from $3.80 to $4.99 per gallon since Mar. 3, raising concerns that increased fuel costs could drive up delivery fees when the busy season begins.  WMUR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State Sen. Bill Gannon from Sandown said delaying school start until after Labor Day could boost the economy and tourism — letting kids enjoy an extra week off. Lawmakers continue to debate the proposal as schools consider the change.  New Hampshire Union Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Director of Administrative Services Tim Cummings announced that no property revaluations will occur in 2026 due to a shortage of assessors and a slow market; the department is preparing to switch to new appraisal software—setting the stage for the next revaluation in 2028.  Nashua Ink Link

SPORTS NEWS

  • Earlier this season, the New England Wildcats won the invite-only Mrs. Hockey tournament in Fort Lauderdale and later played in the NHAHA 12U Tier 1 state final in Manchester where they lost 1-0. Coach Ben Lovejoy praised the team for its hard work and commitment to growing girls hockey.  WMUR
  • Special Olympics athlete Charlie Helfrich offered Boston Marathon training tips in Alanna Flood’s blog while advising runners to cut back on water in the rain; the blog also promotes a fundraiser for Special Olympics New Hampshire.  WMUR
