COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Around 5,000 fans filled SNHU Arena (Manchester) on Sunday to see the 18th annual Battle of the Badges Hockey Championship. The game raised $285,000 for Dartmouth Health Children's and Team Police won 4 to 2 over Team Fire.  WMUR
  • Litchfield Fire Rescue responded to a call just after 2 p.m. on Sunday when a dog wandered onto the ice near Locke Mill Drive—crews returned the animal safely to its owner and warned residents to stay off the dangerous ice.  WMUR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • GE Aerospace will invest over $12 million in its Hooksett plant as part of a $1 billion plan to upgrade US manufacturing sites + support local suppliers this year. The move aims to boost production and strengthen local operations.  New Hampshire Union Leader

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ira and Nathaniel Proctor moved their cooperage and lumber business from Hollis to Nashua in 1881 to take advantage of rail shipping, establishing a large mill-work along E. Hollis St. that local historians note (the site still marks a legacy of community industry).  Nashua Ink Link

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rivier University completed renovations on Benoit Hall, a 42,000-square-foot facility updated with modern technology to train future counselors, psychologists and educators in time for the spring semester.  New Hampshire Union Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews began clearing trees along the F.E. Everett Turnpike between Exits 11 and 12 in Merrimack for replacement bridges. The project (a planned update to the highway overpasses) will improve traffic flow soon.  New Hampshire Union Leader
  • Fred Kocher spoke with Nashua Regional Planning Commission executive director Jay Minkarah, who said a draft regional plan addressing affordable housing, clean drinking water and workforce needs is in final review for 13 southern communities. The plan will also boost collaboration with nearby Massachusetts towns (focus on shared issues).  WMUR
  • State officials and Seabrook residents are weighing the future of nuclear energy amid renewed interest in advanced reactors. HEALTH NEWS

  • AMR medics responded to 46 suspected opioid overdoses in Manchester and Nashua in February, with Manchester seeing 32 cases and Nashua 14; there were 5 fatal overdoses—2 in Manchester and 3 in Nashua.  Nashua Ink Link
