CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Early Thursday morning, state police pursued a wrong-way driver on Interstate 93 and Interstate 293 as troopers fired a gun for reasons not yet explained—Kendra Malone was arrested for felony reckless driving with a deadly weapon and for driving while intoxicated while no injuries were reported and the Major Crimes Unit is investigating. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pamela Smart, serving a life sentence for helping kill her husband in Derry, sent a letter to Rep. David Meuse supporting House Bill 638 so that first-degree murder inmates aged 60 and older with at least 18 years served can apply for parole (she noted similar reforms in New York). She said that life in prison burdens taxpayers (a claim drawn from her research on excessive sentences) and offered her experience to help the committee work on the bill. WMUR
- ➤ A new voter registration law left some voters without proper paperwork during Tuesday’s elections in Derry, Londonderry and Bedford—many residents became confused at polling stations. Local officials are reviewing the situation to set clearer guidelines for future elections—aiming to prevent the same issues from happening again. New Hampshire Union Leader
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ In April, the state will offer free soil testing to check for lead exposure that can harm young children’s health. Nashua residents can drop off soil samples at the Sustainability Fair at the Public Library on April 26 (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) after collecting and mixing soil from gardens or play areas as directed by CDC guidelines. - ➤ The Department of Health and Human Services warned consumers on Friday not to drink raw milk from Brookvale Pines Farm with best-by dates through March 22, 2025 — a caution issued after a cow tested positive for listeria — and officials said listeria has not been found in the milk. WMUR
- ➤ A report by American Medical Response shows that suspected drug overdoses in Nashua and Manchester dropped last month to 41 calls (six were fatal), the fewest in nearly four-and-a-half years. WMUR
