  • A national nonprofit has launched the Healthy Kids Running Series to help children in Nashua and eight other communities run this spring. Coordinators in Amherst, Concord, Dover, Litchfield, Manchester, Peterborough, Plaistow and Windham lead the program — they want to build the kids' confidence.  WMUR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Crews in Nashua responded to a fire at an abandoned building Thursday morning when a small blaze on the exterior spread into the loft—Fire Chief Steve Buxton said the building had been empty for years even though signs of entry were found, and it took about 30 minutes to control the flames with no injuries reported.  WMUR

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Potential Canadian lumber tariffs may soon impact local businesses that rely on imported wood. Tedd Benson from Bensonwood placed a large order during a USMCA pause—this move aims to avoid higher costs and storage issues as tariffs could rise to 60% by fall.  WMUR

CRIME NEWS

  • A joint operation by Hudson Police and Nashua Police’s Narcotics Intelligence Division and Problem Oriented Policing Unit ended on March 11 after 10 people were arrested for drug crimes (charges include offenses under the New Hampshire Substance Abuse Reduction Initiative Grant).  Nashua Ink Link

  • On Thursday New Hampshire lawmakers voted decisively to approve House Bill 592 which overhauls the 2018 bail law—supporters say the measure will require offenders accused of violent crimes, including sexual assault and child abuse, to see a judge before release.  WMUR
  • U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen said she will not run for a fourth term and now many local lawmakers and potential candidates are weighing a run for her seat.   • In New Hampshire in 2023, doctors used abortion pills in 68% of cases as a safe, effective way to end a pregnancy. Providers offer telehealth and in-person options—advocates worry that future legal challenges could reduce access.  Granite Post
