CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Many Granite Staters remain stranded in Mexico amid violent unrest following the killing of a powerful cartel leader on Sunday, with the U.S. Embassy urging Americans to shelter in place (many flights have been canceled). WMUR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Team Avant-Garde from Nashua advanced at the state FTC Championship held at NHTI in Concord on Feb. 21 and will compete at the FIRST World Championship in Houston from Apr. 29 to May 2 + they join other regional teams to showcase their STEM skills. Nashua Ink Link
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Monday morning, a nor'easter brought heavy snow and strong winds to southern New Hampshire, reducing visibility and hindering travel as plow crews in Seabrook & Salem worked to clear roads while some businesses adjusted their hours. WMUR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews are ready as heavy snow and rising tides complicate travel along the coast. Gov Ayotte said no emergency was declared yet and urged residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary — utility teams are working to restore power. WMUR
- ➤ Crews at the Bedford Department of Transportation facility are using wing plows and tandem formations to clear snow from busy highways today. The trucks also spread salt to keep roads safe for drivers during winter weather. WMUR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ American Medical Response reported 48 suspected overdoses (following months of record declines) in Manchester and Nashua in January. New Hampshire Union Leader
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Timberlane won its second straight Division I wrestling title Sunday in Manchester with 281 points at the meet held at Merrimack Ten Pin and Londonderry High School. Bedford’s Matt Ben and Timberlane’s Kyle Lindblad secured key wins (with strong performances in multiple weight classes). WMUR
- ➤ Jack Hughes, the Olympic hockey hero who scored the decisive goal in overtime for Team USA, grew up in New Hampshire; his dad coached the Manchester Monarchs — his mom Ellen is a UNH Athletic Hall of Fame inductee. WMUR
- ➤ Team USA won its first men's hockey gold since 1980 with help from video coach Mike King (a Center Conway native and alumnus of Kennett High School and Franklin Pierce University). WMUR
- ➤ Tara Mounsey, a Concord native and 1998 Olympic gold medalist, was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in December and credited her family, teammates, and coaches during her speech (an acknowledgment of local pride in women’s hockey). WMUR
