COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tim and Sue Willson, owners of Potter's House Bakery and Cafe, offer on-the-job training for people with special needs to help them grow their skills. They plan to expand their mission with a new sensory room (a tribute to friend Cindy) to support community inclusion.  WMUR
  • Local high school student Ella Geraci launched H.O.P.E. After Heartache to help kids heal with art supplies and dance events. She works with Friends of Anya (a Manchester group) to collect supplies and funds, inviting community members to support the cause.  WMUR
  • Lt. Josh Hansen was named Nashua Lions Club Firefighter of the Year for his sustained excellence in leadership and service to the community.  New Hampshire Union Leader

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rev. Jesse Jackson died Tuesday at 84. Archived videos show his visits to local sites such as UNH in Durham (his campaign stops also included Manchester, Portsmouth, and Concord) during his presidential runs in 1984 and 1988.  WMUR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A resolution urging lawmakers to fund public education properly is under review at an Education Funding committee executive session today in Nashua. Representative Cloutier (responding to concerns from property-poor areas) said the measure does not create a new tax.  Nashua Ink Link

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local volunteers continue building and maintaining wood duck boxes on remote ponds to help save the once-threatened waterfowl. Mike Guillemette and others inspect and repair boxes (refreshing bedding and soaping interiors to deter bees) every winter as the birds will breed in late March.  WMUR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers in Concord are debating Senate Bill 403, which would make schools start their year after Labor Day. Proponents say the change benefits family time and eases students back in, while critics worry AP classes may lose instruction days; if passed, the bill will take effect in 2027.  WMUR

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Surgery Center of Greater Nashua is expanding its hours to offer same-day outpatient procedures in specialties like gynecology, orthopedics, and general surgery at 10 Prospect St. and will work closely with Southern New Hampshire Medical Center for seamless care.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Consumer Reports advises Nashua residents to take simple steps to improve indoor air quality this winter by opening windows (when weather permits), using exhaust fans and changing air filters regularly to reduce pollutants from cooking and cleaning, which can help those with respiratory challenges breathe easier.  WMUR
