COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Drivers in Manchester reported unusual noises and vibrations from snow stuck in car wheels, creating a snow imbalance. Derek Lavin from Ron's Toy Shop said a coin-operated car wash may clear the buildup as brake heat or rising temperatures eventually free the ice.  WMUR
  • YMCA of Greater Nashua announced longtime CEO Mike LaChance will retire on Aug. 31 after a 40-year career. The organization will begin its search for a successor soon.  New Hampshire Union Leader

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Tuesday night, the Board of Aldermen awarded a $105,000 contract to J. Graham Studios to paint a mural on the Water Street wall at Renaissance Park. The mural will celebrate the city’s heritage + engage students in creating wood block prints.  Nashua Ink Link
  • Live music and arts events start today with shows like Dillon Welch at Luke’s in Hudson (6pm) and The Granite Stage at Rex Theatre; more performances will take place in Manchester, Concord, and other towns through Feb. 1 (check venue websites for details).  Nashua Ink Link

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Forty years after the Challenger disaster, New Hampshire teacher Christa McAuliffe continues to inspire Granite Staters as a bronze statue honoring her legacy stands outside the statehouse — her example motivates educators and students to reach for the stars.  WMUR
  • Over 200 local high school students, including those from Nashua South, will compete in the statewide New Hampshire High School Ethics Bowl at Saint Anselm College's Alumni Hall on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—the championship match begins at 3 p.m.  Nashua Ink Link

  • Nashua residents can lower heating bills by setting thermostats at 68-70°F when home and lowering them 7-10°F when asleep or away; experts advise using smart thermostats and checking for drafts with an incense test — a simple step to prevent costly repairs from frozen pipes.  WMUR
  • The Storm Watch 9 team is tracking a coastal storm forming off the Carolinas that may bring snow and strong winds to parts of New Hampshire later Sunday and early Monday. Until then, temperatures remain cold — dry weather is expected through Friday.  WMUR
  • Cold conditions persist today with clear skies—through Saturday no storms are expected until a coastal system brushes by Sunday afternoon and evening, potentially dropping light snow and strong winds along the coast and exiting early Monday.  WMUR

  • Today, Lindt master chocolatier Ann Czaja shows how to make hot chocolate at home with traditional milk chocolate and new flavors like cinnamon swirl and carrot cake truffles at the U.S. headquarters – in New Hampshire.
